The Legacy of Charles Rouse Sr. has broadened significantly  from it’s humble beginnings on April 6, 1924 in Washington, D.C. to  his transitional sunset last hit on Nov 30, 1988 in Seattle, Washington.  This man was a dynamic force that inspired, innovated, fostered and nurtured legions of fans, students, friends and extended family members.

It's a gas to meet dad’s musical acquaintances, students, friends and fans.  The reverence with which my old man is held is awe inspiring.  In fact, it was a fan that was the inspiration for my initial conversion from son of, to serious student of Charles “Charlie” Rouse Sr.  It was during a conversation I was having one night after a hit.  I was approached by the regular phalanx of admirers I had grown accustomed to meet when people learned who my dad was.

This night in particular I was imbibing some yak and had tied on a slight buzz, when this cat asked me a question regarding dad.  Well my answer must have both surprised and disturbed him, because he told me  in an extremely agitated manner that “You really don’t know who your dad was”  that was the awakening, the moment of transition, the epiphany that woke me from unproductive slumber.

In a manner of speaking it was a; Boptism.   After that moment the complete immersion of the young, unconnected, unchecked boy named after this great man was Boptised into the fullness of the breath and width of the golden legacy.  I rose dripping wet into the resolve to know who my dad was.   This project is part and parcel of my attempt to share his legacy with the world.
